Question about Defender of Ascalon
Hello everyone,
I've just started playing GW again after a very long time away (5 years or so). I've come back to try and unlock as much as I can for GW2. I've started a new character and so far have been working on the Defender of Ascalon title. I'm really only interested in this as it can go in the HoM to count toward my GW2 rewards. So far I am about half way through 10th lvl. I haven't turned any quests in yet except for the first one that gives you your starter abilities. Do you think it's worth it to continue going after the title or am I better off leaving Pre and starting on the other types of things I can earn for HoM? |

Time to leave. While the new pre quests made it easier and faster. It is still not worth it just for the HoM points.

Might as well stick at it. Now you're level 10 you have access to the daily quests, so things should start to move along much more swiftly.

Keep the character you have at level 10 in pre searing for working on LDoA, but I would shift that to a side project and start another character for regular progress to earn HoM points. Unless you really love that pre-searing character

I agree with the above,
You can't get the title by doing normal leveling/questing. Before the update the only way to get it was by deathleveling (a lot!). Now you can do the daily quests to get a daily quest out of a rotation cycle of 9. Those daily's reward 1000 experience, plus enemy's of your level to kill for some aditional experience. I enjoy it a lot, but, doing the daily quest takes bout 30 minutes on average (some more, some less). So having a second char outside pre, going for other titles/HoM points would be advisable. The HoM is accountwide. so you'll get all the points. |

Presearing is still a useful place to have one character and it only needs a little time each day to do the necesary quests etc.
Nicholas quests every day so you start to build up some rewards there that will become alcohol fireworks etc all useful for titles later on. Pretty good stack of Charr carvings and Hides and of course dye. Charr bags and better yet Charr salvage kits can fetch decent money though the kits are very rare. I restarted 2 characters in pre just to get the title and do a little farming just to see how it pans out. I have a character due to hit 20th level today /age says I have played for 75 hours over the last 2 months. |

if its your ONLY character--then no, if you have the option to leave a character in pre to finish the leveling process, then go for it (its pretty easy and you can farm one of the daily quest to get leveled up quicker).
you can always take the character out after you get the title.

I would go for it since it's not too hard (I did it in 1 week) and it would make post-searing up to Lion's Arch much easier (assuming you don't have a guild to help you yet). It'll be hard to find real players for all the missions up to Gates of Kryta and you'll only be able to get heroes once you land in LA. At level 20, you could solo most of the North Shiverpeaks and not have to bring henchmen who'll eat up your drops.

Keep the char in pre and max LDoA. If you are worried about the time you're spending there, don't turn in the Vanguard quest. Just kill the enemies that spawn closest to the outpost gate (like the two right outside Foible's Fair for the Farmer Hamnet quest. Kill them, rezone, kill them again. It's not overly thrilling but it is relatively quick).
If you are eventually going to go for GWAMM, doing LDoA will save you a lot of time/money later. It'll mean you have to do 3 rather than 4 buyable titles. If you're going for 50/50 but don't want GWAMM, keep the pre char as a side project. If you just want 30/50 in the HoM rewards keep the pre guy as a fall back option. You don't need many titles for 30/50. |

LDoA took months before, now it can take weeks. Keep at it.

Nothing special really. Grind the quest Charr at the Gate until lvl 7 or so, then grind Charr with another player. At lvl 10, start grinding VQs (abandoning and restarting if necessary) and only turning them in when they change the next day. Do all prof quests but turn in as few quests as possible until lvl 19 (may need to turn in one or two primaries for more quests to open up like Charr at the Gate). I was Ranger so I went Necro temporarily for the cheap spells.
I played around 3-4 hours on weekdays and 10 hours on weekends. It would help a lot if you have bonus stuff from Trilogy especially the Fire imp. That's pretty much it. Just be careful when after you turn in your VQs to switch districts right away to be safe since there's a bug where if you turn a VQ in and you log off, you won't be able to do the same quest the next time around (ideally you won't need to repeat any VQs). |

I dont think there is a reason you should hold on to the other quests since the update any more. On the otherhand you will have an advantage if you do turn the old quests immediately.
The Mob levels of the new dayly quests are geared towards the players level. The Mobs go up in levels with the player. Once you have a secondary you can also buy the skills you cant access at the Pre Skill trainer (He only gives you access to skills available in pre though, so still no hard res or other post searing skills). |

I think if you are only interested in gw2 rewards you are going about this the wrong way There are much easier / faster ways to fill up your HoM than doing this title!
If you are pleased with your progress so far then perhaps the best thing to do would be to roll a new character, do all the presearing quests and leave at about level 6, that way you can enjoy the rest of the game and get to work on 'protector of tyria' instead which you need to just do the bonus on each mission you go through - allowing you to level, enjoy the storyline and get more skills rather than hemming you in to the small tutorial area! |

On a serious not though, roll a new char and leave the current one to get LDOA. I advise this despite not doing this on my 2nd accounts GWAMM 50/50 char |

But that is the joy of it.. LoDA can now be something you dip into... while using other characters who have more freedom to gain titles go do all the grindy HoM stuff. Leaving pre to be your little treat |

Keep your LDoA char in pre until you get the title? Yes! (And farm Nick gifts there while you're at it - lots of Party/Sweet/Drunk points to be had there!)
Wait until level 19 to do & turn in all of the Pre-Searing quests? No! While that was the best way to go the old way, it's better to get the quest rewards at level 16 to get yourself quickly to 17. The reason for this is that the quest enemies will go up (4 levels!) when you hit 17, giving you more XP per kill. Roll another character to work on other titles? Yes! (Maybe a NF character for fast access to Heroes) |
